李峰，陕西宝鸡人。1983年西北大学历史系考古专业毕业，1986年获中国社会科学院考古研究所硕士，之后从事西周都城丰镐遗址的发掘。1990年进入日本东京大学攻读博士；赴美国后于2000年获得芝加哥大学博士学位。 现任美国哥伦比亚大学东亚语言和文化系教授，长期从事西周时期考古和历史，特别是西周金文的研究，为西方早期中国研究的重要学者，创办哥伦比亚大学早期中国讲座。2006年起主持山东龙口归域周代古城遗址的调查及发掘至今。中文著作另有《西周的灭亡：中国早期国家的地理和政治危机》（上海古籍出版社，2007）。
